Outfielder Juan Pierre Retires After 14-year MLB Career

MIAMI (AP) — Outfielder Juan Pierre has announced his retirement after a 14-year major-league career that included a World Series championship with the 2003 Florida Marlins.

Pierre ranks 18th in career stolen bases with 614. He was a .295 hitter who finished with 2,217 hits.

He batted .247 in 113 games with the Marlins in his final season in 2013. He announced his retirement Friday at age 37.

Pierre broke into the majors in 2000 with the Colorado Rockies and also played for the Cubs, White Sox, Dodgers and Phillies.

The Alabama native played in every game from 2003 to 2007. He batted over .300 six times, scored at least 100 runs three times and stole over 60 bases three times.
