Giancarlo Stanton’s Wild New Protective Helmet

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Giancarlo Stanton had his 2014 season derailed after taking a fastball to the face on September 11 against the Brewers, causing facial fractures, lacerations, and dental damage.

This year he’s hoping to avoid a repeat occurrence.

Stanton will wear a funky, new protective helmet when in the batter’s circle, and the Schutt-made product will be able to withstand 100-mph pitches, via the Miami Herald:

Unlike some other helmet extensions, which are solid in nature, Stanton is going with a carbon steel frame that can withstand 100-mph pitches.

Stanton flew up to the company’s Litchfield, Ill., facility Monday on owner Jeffrey Loria’s private jet to see the helmet for the first time and put it on for size.
