JUPITER – Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez completed a successful bullpen today, throwing about 15 fastballs at 50 to 60 percent.
Fernandez’s first bullpen since having Tommy John ligament replacement surgery on May 16 drew a crowd, including President David Samson, president of baseball operations Michael Hill, GM Dan Jennings, manager Mike Redmond, pitching coach Chuck Hernandez and the training staff.
Fernandez’s mother, father, grandmother and girlfriend also watched him throw.
“I know it’s a day he’s been waiting for and excited about,” Redmond said. “We talk about those steps for him along the way and this is one of those important steps. Just to see him back up on the mound is exciting for us.”
