FORT MYERS (CBSMiami/AP) — The Miami Marlins saw their 3-game Spring Training winning streak come to an end on Thursday.
Phil Hughes failed to last two innings for the second time in as many spring outings, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Marlins 7-6 Tuesday.
Hughes, who issued just 16 walks all last season, has walked one each time out this spring. He had a four-pitch walk to light-hitting Don Kelly of the Marlins.
Hughes, set to start on opening day, struck out the side in the first. He needed 31 pitches to get two outs in the second and gave up a three-run homer to Jeff Mathis.
The Twins rallied from a 4-1 deficit and went ahead for good on Chris Herrmann’s sacrifice fly in the eighth.
