JUPITER – Derek Dietrich started a lot of games at second base in the first two months of the 2014 season when Rafael Furcal wasn’t ready to go, but the infielder won’t even win a roster spot with the improved Miami Marlins this spring.
Dietrich, 25, is one of five players the Marlins optioned to Triple-A New Orleans today. The others are catcher J.T. Realmuto, infielders Justin Bour and Miguel Rojas and pitcher Andre Rienzo. Also, pitcher Chris Narveson, a non-roster invitee to spring training, was reassigned to minor-league camp.
